GATE PREPARATION DOUBTS

I recently secured a AIR 80 GATE CS 2020. I wanted to give answers to these frequent questions which came to me..

QUESTION 1: SHOULD I DROP A YEAR FOR GATE OR TAKE JOB??
ANSWER:

Let me give you different options you have now. (The below are written priority wise for cse )

1. Take a year drop:

If your family does not need your financial support  then , i definitely recommend you go for a year drop . by taking a year drop you will have more time to prepare without any deviations.

2. Take job and prepare for GATE:

In this case , you need to be more dedicated in-spite of deviations because people around you tend to enjoy in their free time .

many MNC's does not assign project immediately after joining ,so you can use the time. otherwise make use of weekends and holidays.

3. Join NIT and prepare for GATE:

you can join a local NIT with gate score and you will get a stipend of 12,400 with which you can support yourself without asking money from parents. since you will have a lot a time in the first semester , you can prepare for gate

4. Take job:

i will never recommend this option unless the job is high paying product based job as by doing mtech in IISC and top IIT’s you will definitely get a high paying job.

QUESTION 2: SHOULD I TAKE COACHING??
ANSWER:

1.first attempt:

 I personally prefer coaching because

• we never study in our colleges exams 

• we can learn new techniques and approaches 

• a path will be prepared so that one won't have dilemma what to study and how to study

• peer competition with gate aspirants  

 (the above applies for rbr videos also)

even without coaching one can crack gate but extra hours are needed to clear the dilemma mentioned above . there are many online resources like gate overflow, geeks for geeks ,grade up etc   .

one can use them efficiently.  

2. second attempt:

since you have already prepared  , you can prepare by yourself without any coaching and there are a lot of free resources in internet .you can also take coaching because there is no disadvantage in it. by taking coaching , syllabus will be completed more earlier and you can more time for revision and test series.

last but not least :

Whether you take the coaching or not ,do practice more and it is the only the hard work that pays

QUESTION 3:  WHAT IS THE STRATEGY TO CRACK GATE?

ANSWER:

Everyone should have their own approach but let me share mine:

I Personally feel ,one should complete first time syllabus ( which includes topic-wise tests in test-series ) by October end or November start. Then ,first revision ( which includes all subject-wise tests in test-series ) from October to November or mid of December.From December try to give at least one full length test series every day till January end. In February just revise the short notes and stay cool.

the revision process till November should be like : first revise the class notes and then test series but from November ,first give the test series and then revise the topics whichever you are weak in.

The above approach helped me but one should have their own approach based on  his/her conditions.

QUESTION 4: HOW MANY TEST SERIES SHOULD I TAKE?

ANSWER:

(The below answer is according to my perspective)

One should at-least try to complete two test-series , One easy and another moderate+

EASY TESTSERIES LIST:

• ace academy
• textbook
• rbr
• grade up

MODERATE++     LIST:

• made easy
• applied ai

(I don't have idea of other test series in the market , so I am not adding them)

First complete topics wise tests from the easy test series and then start the moderate test series , so that one can build concepts correctly.

suggestions: don't save the tests for later use.

                    start test series as fast as possible.
